Leeds Office Space becomes Nightspot

Call Lane Social, one of the hottest nightspots in the heart of Leeds city centre is bucking the trend and doubling the size of its popular Tiki Hideaway bar after signing a new 16 and half year lease.

The Tiki Hideaway is a post war indulgence themed bar that has become the highlight of the Leeds cocktail scene - offering partygoers a tropical, South Pacific feel. Owner and local entrepreneur, Phil Harrison also owns The Reform and Verve bars on Merrion Street.

The deal was secured following successful negotiations by Leeds property lawyer, Lyndon Campbell of SM Commercial.

"We had gotten to the point where the popularity of the bar meant there was a demand for more room and we wanted to enhance the customer experience and the facilities with an even greater venue," said Phil.

He added: "Lyndon provided invaluable advice when we launched Tiki Hideaway in 2010; he is always practical and you never feel that the meter is running. When we began exploring the possibility of expanding Tiki Hideaway into empty adjacent office space, he was one of the first people I called."

According to Lyndon who advised on the original 20-year lease for the club, the new additional lease which runs concurrently, exemplifies the opportunities for entrepreneurs who run independent bars and restaurants which bring something unique to the city.

"Leeds was hit hard by the recession but there have always been opportunities for entrepreneurs and property developers with an eye for potential and a good deal," says Lyndon. "Gone are the days when office space was at a premium and available units were immediately snapped up. The commercial property market is slowly picking up but there are still numerous empty buildings and offices where a good deal can be made. Both landlords and local authorities are more open to considering change of use. The important thing is to come well prepared and to ask the right questions.

"For entrepreneurs like Phil who offer something unique to the area and are prepared to think outside the box, there are good deals to be made. Phil's bar has become a well-known destination amongst the city's vibrant nightlife and it has been a pleasure to help him expand."

The new and improved Tiki Hideaway will open on January 30.
